The European Commission released on 21 November 2007, for the first time, its proposal for fishing opportunities for fish stocks in the Black Sea. The proposal for the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) was based on advice from a working group of leading Bulgaria and Romanian fisheries scientists which had met in September, as well as the Commission's own Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee on Fisheries (STECF). The report showed that, while the sprat stock in the Black Sea was in a very good states, turbot had been under heavy fishing pressure. This was reflected on the TAC for each species. |
