The impact of foreign-controlled enterprises in the EU

Foreign-controlled enterprises accounted for 18% of the value added generated in the non-financial business economy in 2003, but less than 1% of the number of enterprises in the 14 EU Member States for which data were available. They were most important within the manufacturing sector. More than 60% of the value added generated by foreign-controlled enterprises could be attributed to enterprises in other Member States, while enterprises from the US accounted for 25%.
