Abkhazia in independence appeal

The breakaway Abkhazia region in Georgia called on the UN and other international bodies, 7 March 2008, to recognise it as independent. On the 5 March 2008 Georgia's other breakaway region, South Ossetia, had asked the UN and other international bodies to recognise its independence.
