Germany ratifies EU’s Lisbon treaty

Germany’s lower house, the Bundestag, ratified on the 24 April 2008 the Treaty of Lisbon, with Chancellor Angela Merkel declaring it would end the 'paralysis' in European decision-making. Germany is the ninth EU Member State to ratify the treaty, which is expected to come into force in January 2008.
