Press Release: Seas and Oceans: European Research and Innovation in support of protecting marine eco-systems and developing sustainable maritime activities

Research and Innovation hold a key to reconciling sometimes competing goals of sustainable economic growth and environmental preservation in sea-based activities. Within the context of the overall new integrated maritime policy and to take up on this challenge, the European Commission adopted 'A European Strategy for Marine and Maritime Research'. The Strategy's objective is to overcome fragmentation of the European marine and maritime research landscape by capacity building, increased integration across traditional research sectors and increased cooperation of all actors in this area.
