Press Release: Internal Market: Commission takes action to ensure that Member States implement EU laws

The European Commission decided to pursue infringement procedures against several Member States for failure to implement certain Internal Market Directives into national law. The Commission will send reasoned opinions to 16 Member States (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxemburg, Malta, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom) regarding a Directive on Statutory Audit. The Commission will also send reasoned opinions to the Czech Republic, Greece, Italy and Portugal regarding the Eligible Assets Directive. Finally, the Commission will send, under Article 228 of the EC Treaty, a letter of formal notice to Luxembourg requesting full information on its compliance with a judgement of the European Court of Justice concerning implementation of a Directive on public procurement.
