Press Release: Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on the forming of the new Government of Bangladesh

The European Union welcomes the successful completion of the Parliamentary Elections in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008 and the resulting appointment of the new Government of Bangladesh. It congratulates Sheikh Hasina on her electoral victory and appointment as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and pays tribute to the people of Bangladesh for their commitment to the holding of democratic, multi-party elections. The elections provide a basis for a new democratic development in Bangladesh.
