Sarkozy pressed to add social element to plan

Article reports that French trade unions would try to persuade Nicolas Sarkozy, President, to add a social dimension to his economic stimulus policy with tax cuts, wage rises and extra welfare spending. Union bosses and business leaders were invited to a summit at the Elysée Palace, 18 February 2009.

President Sarkozy unveiled a package of tax breaks and social benefits for struggling families at the summit.
