Innovation Union Competitiveness Report 2011

The European Commission has published the Innovation Union
Competitiveness Report 2011 in June 2011. This is the first report providing a comprehensive analysis of recent trends and long-term evolution in research and innovation performance in all 27 EU Member States and six Associated Countries.

The EU's innovation performance needs major improvements in many areas if the Europe 2020 strategy is to deliver smart sustainable growth, report concluded. Europe needs more and 'smarter' investment in both public and private research and development – not only would this boost growth in the medium-term, it also would have a counter-cyclical effect in times of crisis.
