In 2001, the European Commission issued a White Paper setting an agenda for the European transport policy until 2010. Approaching the end of this ten-year period, the European Commission has decided to now look further ahead and define a vision for the future of transport and mobility, preparing the ground for later policy developments. The European Commission intends to launch a debate on the main challenges and opportunities for the transport sector in the long term (20 to 40 years). To contribute to this aim, a Communication has been adopted by the Commission on 17 June 2009: A sustainable future for transport: Towards an integrated, technology-led and user friendly system. The EurActiv article includes links to the viewpoints of a range of stakeholders. |
