Press Release: Henrik Hololei appointed Deputy Director-General for Enlargement

In his new role, Mr Hololei will support the Director-General in the overall management of the Enlargement DG and its 400 staff members, replacing the Director-General as needed and representing him in high-level negotiations and contacts. The Enlargement DG is responsible for taking forward work on the enlargement of the European Union, including accession negotiations with Croatia and Turkey, and relations with the countries of the Western Balkans. The DG also manages EU financial assistance to these countries, through pre-accession aid.
