On 11 June 2009 the World Health Organisation (WHO) raised the level of influenza pandemic alert from phase 5 to phase 6, which corresponds to the worldwide spread of the virus Influenza A (H1N1) 2009. On the basis of scientific and epidemiological data and knowledge the WHO and the
European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) are advising countries in the northern hemisphere to prepare for a new wave of the pandemic.
