Press Release: Commission takes legal action against Italy on discriminatory student grants

The European Commission decided to take legal action against Italy for organising a competition for university students to access low rent apartments based on two discriminatory conditions: being an Italian national and having resided in the territory in the preceding five years. On October 8 2009 the Commission sent a letter of formal notice to the Italian authorities to which they have two months to respond – the first stage of the infringement procedure.
