The European Commission extended its in-depth investigation into a support package in favour of the German Hypo Real Estate Group (HRE), opened under EC Treaty state aid rules on 7 May 2009. The extension was necessary in order to examine additional restructuring measures which Germany has carried out or intends to carry out in the future. The extension of an investigation is common for restructuring cases and does not prejudge the outcome of the procedure. The Commission also found capital injections of approximately €6 billion temporarily compatible with the EC Treaty state aid rules in the interim period until a final decision on the restructuring plan is reached. |
