High-speed services cut European train times

European travellers got a taste of the continent’s most widespread improvements in rail travel on the 14 December 2009 as the annual timetable update ushered in the first weekday service on new high-speed rail lines in four countries and the first domestic service on the UK’s channel tunnel line.
