Spain’s jobless total nears 4m

Spanish unemployment rose to its highest level for more than a decade in December 2009, reaching almost 4m and dealing a blow to José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Spain’s Socialist prime minister, who has made job creation the focus of his economic strategy.
