Statement by Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, on the Greek request to activate the mechanism agreed by the European Council, Brussels, 23 April 2010

The President of the European Council has been informed of the Greek request to activate the mechanism agreed by the European Council on 25 March 2010. As agreed by Eurogroup Finance Ministers on 11 April 2010, the European Commission, the ECB and the IMF are currently assessing the situation in Greece and negotiating a joint programme with the Greek authorities.
