Press Release: Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Extraordinary Council meeting (Transport), Brussels, 4 May 2010

The Council adopted conclusions on the EU response to the consequences of the volcanic ash cloud on air transport in the aftermath of the eruption of a volcano in Iceland. It agreed in particular on the need to develop without delay new methods for risk assessment and risk management and to establish binding limit values as regards the risks of volcanic ash clouds; to fast-track key elements of the Single European Sky, including the appointment of a
central network manager for the European airspace; and to develop an interlinked European transport system allowing to switch to other transport modes in an emergency.
