Parliament threatens to block ‘Europe 2020’ plan

Speaking at an EPC conference held on the 3 June 2010 Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the liberal group in the European Parliament, warned that the European Parliament could block parts of the EU's new ten-year economic strategy if EU Member State governments were to continue to base it on an intergovernmental approach. The Socialists in the European Parliament backed his calls.
