The European Commission has asked the United Kingdom to adopt all the measures necessary to comply with the EU legislation that protects workers from health and safety risks of excessive exposure to 'artificial optical radiation', such as laser equipment and ultraviolet A light (UVA) (Directive 2006/25/EC). The request takes the form of a 'reasoned opinion' under EU infringement procedures. The United Kingdom has two months to bring its legislation into line with EU law otherwise, the Commission may decide to refer it to the EU's Court of Justice. |
