Ashton endorses army as ‘guardians’ of Egypt’s transition

Hosni Mubarak stepped down as President of Egypt on the 11 February 2011, after weeks of protest in Cairo and other cities.

EUObserver reported that the European Union appeared to have endorsed the role of the army as 'guardians' of the 'transition process'. While paying 'tribute' to protestors for their 'calmess', the priority now, Brussels believeed, was on regional stability.
