Erdogan on course to win June poll

Turkey will go to the polls on 12 June 2011 in elections that are likely to confirm Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister, as one of the country’s longest-serving political leaders.

The government submitted the election date to parliament on the 22 February 2011, setting the stage for a contentious campaign.
