Draghi backs Italian austerity plan

Mario Draghi, Governor of the Bank of Italy, gave a qualified endorsement of the centre-right government’s proposed austerity package on 13 July 2011 while criticising in general what he called the piecemeal approach by European governments and policymakers to the sovereign debt crisis.
