EU, US expected to call on Assad to go

EurActiv reported in August 2011 that the EU and the Obama administration in the US were expected to call for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to leave office.

On the 19 August 2011 the European Union agreed to prepare to ban oil imports from Syria in a move that expanded its growing list of sanctions against the country.
