Press Release: Free movement: Determined Commission action has helped resolve 90% of open free movement cases

The free movement of persons between EU Member States is one of the most tangible successes of the past 60 years of European integration. It brings great benefits to EU citizens, Member States and the European economy as a whole. Europeans take advantage of their free movement rights every day: they make around 1.25 billion journeys as tourists within the EU every year. A recent survey showed that for 48% of European citizens, the right to move and reside freely in the European Union is the most important citizens’ right.
