EurActiv reported that that Turkey canceled a deal to supply overpopulated Istanbul with Russian gas in October 2011 over a pricing dispute. The cancellation meant Turkey loses supply for some 15% of the gas it needs, causing a price hike for consumers. Nevertheless, there are still very close energy relations between the two countries as well as close ties in other economic and trade matters. |
