EU agrees 2012 ‘austerity budget’

The European Union’s annual budget will increase 2.02% in 2012 to €129bn, after negotiators representing the bloc’s 27 member states and the European Parliament reached agreement in an all-night bargaining session on the 18-19 November 2011.
