Monti challenged over fiscal compact

Italy’s centre-right People of Liberty (PDL), the largest political party backing Mario Monti’s technocratic government, challenged the prime minister in May 2012 over his commitment to a speedy ratification of the EU’s fiscal compact and said he must change his economic policies to avoid early elections.
