The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of joint control over the Japanese electronic devices and components producer NEC Tokin by IT products and services provider NEC Corporation of Japan and capacitor producer Kemet of the US. NEC Tokin is currently solely owned by NEC Corporation. Capacitors are electromechanical components used to store and regulate electrical energy and current flow, for instance in laptop computers, mobile phones or flat screen television sets. The Commission found that the proposed transaction would not raise competition concerns because of the limited increase in market share resulting from the acquisition and the presence of sufficient competitors on the markets concerned. |
