Greece said on the 30 October 2012 that it had wrapped up talks with international lenders in the Troika on a new bailout deal despite objections by a small leftwing party, opening the way for the Greek parliament to approve the package and secure €31.5bn in fresh funding. Separately, Yannis Stournaras, Greece's Finance Minister, delivered his 2013 budget on the 31 October 2012, forecasting a continuing deep recession and only a modest decline in the general government deficit. Greece's two biggest trade unions called a 48-hour strike for 6-7 November 2013 to protest against the latest wave of austerity measures demanded by foreign lenders set to be voted in parliament in the week beginning 4 November 2012. |
