Spain’s banks told the Spanish government in November 2012 that they were willing to freeze evictions of destitute homeowners. The announcement came ahead of a meeting on the 12 November 2012 between the government and the main opposition Socialist Party to find a solution to a problem that was assuming an increasingly tragic face. Lenders from the banks have foreclosed about 400,000 properties since the implosion of Spain’s decade-long property bubble. |
