EU annual budget talks flounder

In a worrying sign for the ongoing negotiations over the EU’s long-term budget (MFF 2014-2020), talks aimed at agreeing the 2013 EU budget and emergency funding for 2012 collapsed abruptly on the 9 November 2012 at Conciliation stage discussions between the EU Member States and MEPs in the European Parliament.

An attempt at a further meeting on the 13 November 2012 also failed when MEPs refused to attend. This move will force the European Commission to present a new budget proposal for 2013.
