Parliament gives thumbs up to Latvia’s euro membership / Latvia to adopt euro on 1 January 2014

On the 3 July 2013, the European Parliament cleared the way for Latvia to adopt the euro in 2014, ahead of the final go-ahead to be given by EU finance ministers.

The Council adopted a decision on the 9 July 2013 allowing Latvia to adopt the euro as its currency as of 1 January 2014.

Latvia would become the eurozone’s 18th member.
