On the occasion of 2013 World Food Day (16th October 2013) the European Commission underlined commitment to reducing food waste in Europe. According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) around a third of food is wasted globally, which amounts to 1.3 billion tons per year. About 90 million tonnes of food is wasted annually in Europe.
