On 21-22 November 2013, the European Commission hosted the 'Assises de la Justice' forum in Brussels. The main theme of the conference centred around the question: What will EU justice policy look like in 2020? The starting point for this reflection was a package of five discussion papers presented by the Commission covering European civil, criminal and administrative law, as well as the rule of law and fundamental rights in the EU. These papers present ideas and questions for possible actions in EU justice policy in the years to come. The aim is to strengthen the foundations on which the European Union is built and complete the European area of justice in the interest of Europe's citizens and businesses. |
