Eurozone bank network getting smaller

The number of banks in the Eurozone fell by almost 4 percent in 2013, according to data published on the 21 January 2014 by the European Central Bank .

There were 6,790 monetary financial institutions (MFIs) based in the euro area at the start of 2014, compared with 7,059 the year before, a 3.8 percent reduction.
