BBC News reported on the 18 March 2014 that pro-Russian politicians and activists in Moldova's breakaway Trans-Dniester region had asked the Russian parliament to draft a law that would allow their territory to join Russia. The Trans-Dniestrian appeal came as Russia moved in March 2014 towards absorbing Ukraine's region of Crimea into the Russian Federation, a move which Ukraine, the EU and US said was illegal. |
