Press Release: EU prepares civilian mission to assist security sector reform in Ukraine

On 23 June 2014, the Council of the European Union, at the Foreign Affairs meeting taking place in Luxembourg, approved the concept for a mission under the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy to assist Ukraine in the reform of the civilian security sector, police and the rule of law, and gave political backing to its set-up.

The mission would provide strategic advice for the development of sustainable, accountable and efficient security services that contribute to strengthening the rule of law in Ukraine.
