Welsh Government Finance Minister Jane Hutt told European Commissioner Johannes Hahn in March 2014 that EU funds have been essential to Wales as a Welsh project (BEACON) was recognised by the EU as one of the most innovative schemes across Europe.

Earlier in March 2014 Mrs Hutt had told business leaders in Wales that over 8,000 new businesses had been created and £665 million worth of contracts have been won by industry through the delivery of the EU Structural Funds programmes in Wales.
