Press Release: State aid: Commission opens in-depth investigation into proposed public financing for Volkswagen in Portugal

The European Commission opened an in-depth investigation to examine whether Portugal's plans to grant €36.15 million public financing to Volkswagen Autoeuropa, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen group, for an investment project in the Setubal region were in line with EU state aid rules. The opening of a formal investigation gave interested third parties the possibility to comment on the proposed measure. It did not prejudge the outcome of the investigation.
