Cyprus seeks harsh EU statement on Turkey

Cyprus convinced the EU leaders at the European Council on 23 October 2014 to condemn Turkey for violating its economic zone and sovereignty.

In a message delivered by the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades - who was absent due to sudden illness - raised the issue of the incursions of a Turkish ship exploring for gas in the Cypriot economic zone, in an area where Cyprus had already issued companies licenses to drill.
