The Irish parliament began a formal inquest on 17 December 2014 into the banking crisis that forced the country to the brink of bankruptcy and a €67 billion EU-funded bailout in 2010.

While the European Central Bank's role in the bailout process was seen as highly controversial, the institution announced it would not appear before the deputies.
