Following the killing of French journalists in Paris in January 2015, European Commission Vice-President Federica Mogherini called for the pain to be transformed in concrete actions to tackle terrorism in EU territory. The statement was made on 8 January 2015 after a meeting between the European Commission and the Latvian government. EC president Jean-Claude Juncker stated that it was still premature to make decisions. He emphasized that fight against terrorism was primarily a member state competence, but added that 'interconnections' should be put in place between national authorities to fight against terrorism, 'in a preemptive way'. |
