Learning by doing: military lessons learnt within the comprehensive approach

The aim of this conference was to identify potential solutions for improving the military contribution to the EU’s Comprehensive Approach, by raising awareness of the military lever and sharing lessons and best practices from missions and operations.

The event sought to capitalise on the momentum created by the PSC endorsement of the suggestions for crisis management procedures for CSDP crisis management operations; the joint European Commission-EEAS communication on the Comprehensive Approach and the conclusions of the December 2013 European Council on Defence. Increasing challenges to be addressed on the international scene – the latest being the crisis in the Central African Republic – add further urgency to a constructive debate on the military contribution to the Comprehensive Approach.
