A new Eurobarometer survey marked the beginning of the European Year for Development. Figures showed that the number of people being in favour of increasing aid had gone up significantly, and Europeans continued to feel very positively about development and cooperation. 67% of respondents across Europe answered that development aid should be increased – a higher percentage than in previous years, despite the economic situation. 85% voiced an opinion that it was important to help people in developing countries.
