The BBC and other news sources reported that the euro slid to a nine-year low against the dollar in early January 2015 as investors predicted the European Central Bank (ECB) might soon act to stimulate the economy by introducing a government bond-buying programme ('quantitative easing'). ECB president Mario Draghi stated in January 2015 that 'concrete measures' were being prepared to establish a QE programme soon. However, German reservations in particular, continued to cause worries in the markets. |
