Spain marked its its national day on the 12 October 2015 – the anniversary of the arrival of Cristóbal Colón (otherwise known as Christopher Columbus) in the Americas. But the 2015 nationwide holiday came at a moment of significant tension, amid questions about whether the nation would hold together for much longer.
