Berlin steps up efforts to expand its ‘safe list’

Feature published by EurActiv regarding Germany's efforts to put Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia on a list of safe countries of origin in an attempt to reduce the number of asylum seekers coming for those countries.

[In June 2016 it was reported that parliamentary vote on recognising North African countries being recognized as safe countries of origin had been posponted in the Bundesrat until 8 July 2016 due to substantial Green Party opposition in the upper house].
