MEPs back proposal to mobilise EU Solidarity Fund for assistance to Cyprus, Portugal and the United Kingdom

The European Parliament's plenary session approved on 5 April 2017 the allocation of €71.5 million from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) to help repair damage caused by natural disasters in three member states.

+ Floods in the United Kingdom, December 2015;
+ Drought and fires in Cyprus, October 2015 to June 2016;
+ Fires in the Portuguese island of Madeira, August 2016.

The proposal was put forward by the European Commission in January 2017.
