From Armenia, Pope Francis urges regional reconciliation

Pope Francis visited Armenia in June 2016. He urged the country to seek reconciliation with Turkey over the Armenian genocide and with Azerbaijan to find a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Pope's use of the word 'genocide' as regards the massacre of Armenians in the beginning of 20th century was met with harsh criticism on the Turkish side.
